POETICS OF OTHERING OURSELVES

Amid a global scenario of crises, catastrophes, and climate emergencies, art and its capacity for affection, potentializing the encounter of human and non-human bodies, becomes the central axis of this research-creation.
Poetics of Othering Ourselves emerges from the artistic practice in performance and its sensitive potential for the creation of affection fields, stimulating possible ways of inhabiting the world, of world-making, and above all, of imagining and acting poetically and politically in the construction of Other-worlds. A "whole-world" (GLISSANT, 2005). Othering Ourselves.
This research is grounded in performance research and in the experiential actions of a body in performance, seeking the construction of a porous body (RIBEIRO, 2021) and its potency of action. A poetics that aims at activating the imaginary through a proposal of encounters, relations, and affections as the enchainment of new modes of cultivating and connecting with life, spirituality, nature, and the territories we inhabit and by which we are inhabited.

Immerse

To immerse is an invitation to do performative walks as an immersive act of connection, mapping, and affective engagement between our bodies-territory and the territories-body in which we perform our actions. An invitation to silence, sense, hear, smell, and submerge into an immersive experience. And, with this, to immerse. This methodology unfolds through individual and collective actions, awakening sensibilities and broadening our sensory-perception apparatus.
To immerse is also the methodology through which I have been developing my artistic research and production, motivated by the investigation of the poetic possibilities of othering oneself.

“A porous body is a way of being in the world. A porous body is not an everyday, automatized body, nor is it just a body in dislocation, in movement. But it is a body that seeks another self, a self that builds, that connects, that creates zones of contamination and contagion, without borders, without hierarchies between species. A porous body is an available body, permeable, in a state of full attention. A body capable of feeling, listening and absorbing (becoming body) micro-movements, micro-sounds, tactilities and temporalities, as well as macro-movements and the amplitude of the whole in which it is inserted. The porous body is therefore a state of being and acting in the world. A state of being in a poetics of otherness and the construction of other worlds.” (Ribeiro, 2021)

As a Breath

As a Breath is a two-channel video installation produced amidst the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Fruit of a long-duration performative research, as a Breath emerges from the potency of the encounter and coexistence of my body and the Atlantic Forest bodies.
Bodies movement.
Bodies flux.
Bodies in emergency.
... as a Breath World

[UN]submerged

Performance and video installation that composed the performative installation [UN]submerged. Developed by the connection with Mulheres da Improvisação (Women of Improvisation), which I was part of during 2020/2021, [UN]submerged creates an immersion through interconnected virtual rooms, debating the relations between body, presence, and environment, through acts of creation, cultivation, and connection. With its fruition mediated by digital platforms and their technical possibilities and potentialities, it is an experience that puts into conversation the singularities and the context we are living during pandemic days but also instigates us to think of possible collective actions for an[other] world to come.

Co-Existence – We are not alone – “Coexistência (2021)

Coexistence_We are not alone (2021) is a video poem by Walmeri Ribeiro that invites us to dive into the nuances of a dystopic present, exploring this dramatic scenario where the respect for all forms of life and for nature itself has been completely ignored due to our species limited perception and the absence of environmental awareness.
